The Local Reads book club will discuss John O’Hara’s short story “Fatimas and Kisses” at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28 – three days before the 121st anniversary of his birth. The story is narrated by James Malloy, O’Hara’s alter-ego, and is loosely based on the Pottsville native’s time as a local newspaper reporter in the 1920s. Society newsletter editor Lisa Von Ahn will present some historical background, and Local Reads organizer Kasey Owen will lead the discussion.
“Fatimas and Kisses” is included in Gibbsville and other anthologies of O’Hara’s work and can be read online at https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/1966/05/21/fatimas-and-kisses.
Free to the public. All are welcome!
