America 250: The Tragic Story of Fred Anchorstar

Historian Rick Nagle will discuss the fascinating story of Gustav “Fred” Anchorstar, a Schuylkill Haven boy who enlisted in the US Army in World War Two. His unit, the 106th Infantry Division, was hit hard on December 16, 1944, when the Germans began what would be known as the Battle of the Bulge. Captured and later sent to Stalag 9B, he was eventually selected to be sent to the Berga concentration camp. His tale would tragically end there. His story is one that needs to be shared.
